Article About Entertaiment
The word entertainment derives from the Latin inter-tenere, which translates as “to hold inside,” and is an allusion to the idea of holding in place or holding within oneself, i.e. keeping something alive, not letting it go stale. It is in this sense of retaining or maintaining that entertainment is so strongly linked to leisure, and it is also inside the context of familiar forms (rites, parties, non secular pageantry, satire) where the opportunity exists for it to take on other kinds of functions, such as attaining perception or highbrow growth.
